The Last Kingdom, the popular historical fiction series, is being adapted once again for the big screen. Fans of the series will be delighted to know that Netflix is producing a feature film based on the show, titled Seven Kings Must Die.

The Last Kingdom has been a fan favourite since it first premiered on BBC Two in 2015. The series is based on the Saxon Stories novels by Bernard Cornwell, and follows the adventures of Uhtred of Bebbanburg, a warrior born a Saxon but raised among Danes in 9th-century England. The show has been praised for its attention to historical detail, complex characters, and thrilling action sequences.

The feature film adaptation will continue Uhtred’s story and explore new territory not covered in the series. The official trailer for Seven Kings Must Die promises a thrilling new adventure for fans of the show. The trailer features epic battle scenes, political intrigue, and the return of familiar characters such as Uhtred, Aethelred, and Brida.

Production on the film began in 2020, with many of the same actors and creatives from the series returning for the project. Alexander Dreymon, who plays Uhtred, will once again don the chainmail and leather armour for the character. David Dawson will also be returning as King Alfred the Great, the brilliant but ailing ruler of Wessex.

When asked about the decision to adapt The Last Kingdom into a feature film, executive producer Nigel Marchant commented, “The series has been a huge success for Netflix, and we wanted to give fans something special to continue the story. Seven Kings Must Die will be a thrilling adventure that expands on the world we’ve created and takes our characters on a new journey.”

As one of Netflix’s most beloved series, The Last Kingdom has already made its mark on the streaming service. Seven Kings Must Die is shaping up to be another success for the franchise, and fans can’t wait to see what the future holds for Uhtred and his companions. The film is set to release on Netflix in 2022.
